File dates vs. Exif dates
File dates and exif dates are two different things. They are independent. Whereas exif dates live inside the file, file dates live outside the file on the disk/operating system level. This often leads to confusion since for example Finder shows file dates, not exif dates.
However, Exif Editor can synchronise file dates with exif dates on save. You can check preferences window where you can set what should Exif Editor do when saving files. It can do one of the following:
• Set file dates to the exif counterpart value
• Keep the original file dates
• Ignore this value and let the operating system do whatever it does normally when saving files - keep file creation date and set the file modification date to the current time.
