Navigating around on the map

Open the Map tab in the main window. It is available in the Basic and Extended views of the Visible Tags toolbar menu. The map is at the top, and the GPS and location tags of the selected files are below it.

What is shown

The map shows all open files that contain GPS coordinates, not only the selected ones. Files without location data do not appear. Markers of selected files are orange, other markers are red. Nearby markers are merged into a cluster showing the number of files. Zoom in to split it.

Use the Standard and Satellite buttons in the map toolbar to switch the map type.

Setting a location

To add a location to the selected files:

  1. Click + EXIF Point or + XMP Point in the map toolbar.
  2. Click the place on the map.

The coordinates are written to the EXIF or XMP GPS tags of all selected files that are not read-only.

You can also move an existing location by dragging its marker. Markers of read-only files cannot be dragged.

Searching for a place

Type an address or a place name into the search field. The results are shown below the map and as markers on the map. Click a result marker to open a popover where you can set its coordinates to the selected files (Set GPS to EXIF or Set GPS to XMP) or copy its address into the location tags.

File details

Click a file marker to open a popover with the file's EXIF and XMP locations and IPTC and XMP addresses. There you can remove a location or an address, and copy one of the Addresses found at this place into the IPTC or XMP tags. This works even for files that are not selected. Clicking a cluster shows the list of its files.

As with any other edit, save the files to write the changes to disk.
